Puy du Fou Files £600 Million Plan for Ride-Free Historical Park Near Bicester

Cherwell District Council will now consider the outline proposal, leaving any 2029 phased opening contingent on planning approval and later consents.

Overview

  • Puy du Fou submitted an outline planning application to Cherwell District Council for a c.370-acre site north of Bucknell near junction 10 of the M40.
  • If permission is granted, the operator plans a phased launch from 2029 with seasonal opening from April to October and an estimated 1.47 million visitors a year.
  • The concept follows Puy du Fou’s live-show model with four period villages, 13 shows, three themed hotels and a conference centre, without mechanical rides.
  • The company projects around 2,000 direct jobs, 6,000 supported roles and a £500 million annual economic boost once fully developed, subject to approval.
  • Puy du Fou says the bid follows over a year of consultation and includes landscaping with ponds, lakes, over five miles of hedgerows and 20,000 trees, plus a recruitment partnership with Activate Learning.
