Overview
- Nicholas Brandram, 44, was found unresponsive at his Chiswick home and pronounced dead on Tuesday; the Metropolitan Police say the death is unexpected and not believed to be suspicious.
- Brandram had been arrested on 15 June on suspicion of attempted grievous bodily harm over the 5 May 2017 Putney Bridge CCTV assault and was later released under investigation while officers continued outstanding lines of inquiry.
- His family say he took his own life after months of ‘immense pressure’ from the Met investigation and insist there was no forensic evidence linking him to the 2017 incident.
- The Met has made a mandatory self-referral to the Independent Office for Police Conduct, which has confirmed it is assessing prior police contact and will decide whether further action is needed.
- Police will prepare a file for the coroner and detectives continue forensic work on the unsolved Putney Pusher case, which in 2017 prompted wide publicity after CCTV showed a jogger push a woman into the path of a bus.
