Purdue Reclaims No. 1 in AP Poll, Stays No. 1 in Coaches Rankings

Split first-place ballots underline how marquee results are keeping the early pecking order unsettled.

Overview

  • Purdue moved back to No. 1 in the AP Top 25 with 44 of 61 first-place votes after an 87-80 win at Alabama, and it led the Coaches poll with 20 of 31 top votes.
  • Houston slipped to No. 2 following a 73-72 escape against Auburn, though it still garnered 12 AP first-place votes and nine from coaches.
  • UConn held No. 3 after edging BYU 86-84, and now hosts No. 4 Arizona on Wednesday before scheduled games with Illinois and Kansas.
  • Louisville and Illinois each rose six spots into the AP top 10 after wins over Kentucky and Texas Tech, respectively, as BYU fell two places to No. 9.
  • NC State entered the AP poll at No. 25, and BYU’s depth is in flux with starter Kennard Davis Jr. suspended indefinitely following an arrest.
