Overview

  • First-year head coach Barry Odom announced the decision after Thursday’s practice for the Aug. 30 opener against Ball State.
  • Browne won a four-man competition over transfers Malachi Singleton and Evans Chuba and returning junior Bennett Meredith.
  • The redshirt sophomore returned to West Lafayette after committing to North Carolina in December and rejoining Purdue in April.
  • His candidacy was boosted by last season’s overtime loss to Illinois, where he threw for 297 yards and three touchdowns and rushed for 118 yards.
  • Purdue is coming off a 1–11 season and is slated to face five AP preseason top-25 opponents after opening with Ball State and Southern Illinois.
