Overview

  • More than 350 performers from police cadet schools, universities, art institutes and private organizations took part in the production.
  • Marcelino Apaza Livise portrayed Manco Cápac and Julieta Yanqui Maquera played Mama Ocllo after a selection process named them to the lead roles.
  • The day began before dawn on Isla Los Uros with an offering to the lake deity, followed by a 10:30 a.m. symbolic totora-raft voyage to the Estación Naval de Huaje.
  • The central ceremony unfolded at the Universidad Nacional del Altiplano stadium before a large crowd and included a sikuri contest with 16 ensembles qualifying for the 2026 Virgen de la Candelaria.
  • Quechua, Aymara and Uru were used during the ceremony, and members of the Uros community sold artisanal goods as media framed the event within Puno’s anniversary despite differing on the exact year.
