Punjabi Comedy Veteran Jaswinder Bhalla Dies at 65 After Brain Haemorrhage

  • Fortis Hospital in Mohali said Bhalla was admitted on August 20 with an acute brain haemorrhage, managed on ventilator and cardio-supportive care, and pronounced dead at 4:35 am on August 22.
  • His cremation is scheduled for August 23 at 12 pm at the Balongi cremation ground in Mohali, with large crowds of fans and colleagues expected.
  • Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann paid tribute publicly and later visited Bhalla’s Mohali residence to offer condolences to the family.
  • A towering figure in Punjabi entertainment, Bhalla rose to fame with the satirical Chhankata series and became widely known for his Advocate Dhillon role in the Carry On Jatta films, most recently appearing in 2024’s Shinda Shinda No Papa.
  • Beyond films, he held a PhD in extension education and retired in 2020 as professor and head of the Department of Extension Education at Punjab Agricultural University; he is survived by his wife Parmdeep, son Pukhraj, and daughter Ashpreet.
