Overview
- Punjab announced on Monday that it will introduce activity-based textbooks for primary students up to Grade 5 beginning with the 2027 academic session.
- The Punjab Curriculum and Textbook Board has already started preparing the new books and says the materials follow a revised primary curriculum.
- The textbooks will centre on hands-on learning with classroom exercises that link lessons to real-life situations so pupils practise skills rather than only memorise facts.
- Officials say the aim is to change teaching and learning in early grades so children develop creativity, problem solving and practical abilities, which will require teachers to adopt activity-led classroom methods.
- The province plans to finish preparation ahead of a province-wide implementation in 2027, marking the first time Punjab will use a dedicated activity-based textbook system for Grades 1–5.
