Overview
- Punjab is considering declaring Friday, February 4, a public holiday to pair with Kashmir Day on Thursday and the weekend for four consecutive days off.
- Basant in Lahore is set for February 6–8, with kite flying allowed only during those dates under strict controls.
- Kite sales are limited to February 1–8 through registered vendors tracked by QR codes, and dangerous charkhi spools and coated or metallic strings remain prohibited.
- Children under 18 are barred from flying kites, with parental fines up to Rs100,000 for violations, and unsafe strings can draw penalties of up to five years in prison and Rs2 million.
- Celebrations are approved in parks and open spaces as well as on rooftops under SOPs, and key roads and markets across the city will feature Basant-themed decorations.
