Punjab Unveils 101 Electric Buses for DG Khan, Plans South Punjab Secretariat

The move extends the electric transit rollout to South Punjab alongside a self-reliant flood relief stance.

Overview

  • Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz launched an electric-bus service in Dera Ghazi Khan and announced 101 buses to serve the entire division, including Rajanpur, Layyah, Muzaffargarh and Taunsa.
  • She said a South Punjab secretariat would be created and pledged to hold a session there every month to improve administrative access.
  • Positioning the initiative as equitable development, she rejected narratives that divide Punjab into South, Central or North regions.
  • She rebuked spokespersons from an allied party for politicising flood relief while describing Asif Ali Zardari as a respected elder and Bilawal Bhutto Zardari as a younger brother.
  • Reiterating a policy of provincial self-reliance, she rejected foreign aid and small cash handouts for flood victims in favor of larger compensation and reconstruction.
