Punjab Teacher Arrested in Class 7 Harassment Case as Odisha Suspect Remains at Large

Officers invoked BNS and POCSO, with a separate assault case opened after locals attacked the Dirba suspect.

  • Police in Sangrur’s Dirba arrested a private-school teacher after a 13-year-old’s mother reported sexual harassment and death threats.
  • Investigators booked the Dirba accused under BNS Sections 74, 75(2), 78, 79 and 351(2) and under Section 12 of the POCSO Act.
  • The head granthi of the area was arrested after a group allegedly entered the school and assaulted the Dirba teacher, who is being treated at the Sangrur civil hospital.
  • In Odisha’s Sundargarh, a 36-year-old Sanskrit teacher was booked after seven students alleged harassment on August 16, and he is currently absconding.
  • Police in Sundargarh recorded the students’ statements under BNSS Section 180 and have sought magistrate orders to record statements under Section 183 as the search for the accused continues.
