Overview

  • On June 6, the state placed SSP Vigilance Jagatpreet Singh under suspension for grave misconduct and dereliction of duty following allegations he colluded with Ashu to gain political sympathy.
  • A Ludhiana court granted Congress leader Bharat Bhushan Ashu interim bail on June 7, ordering him to rejoin the investigation into the alleged ₹2,400-crore misuse of 4.7 acres of land.
  • The original FIR filed on January 8 charges the New Senior Secondary School management committee with cheating, criminal breach of trust and forgery for converting subsidised educational land into commercial ventures.
  • Both Ashu and Aam Aadmi Party officials accuse each other of weaponising the Vigilance Bureau ahead of the June 19 Ludhiana West by-election contested by Ashu and AAP’s Sanjeev Arora.
  • The Vigilance Bureau has summoned over 25 current and former school committee members and continues reviewing procedural lapses and suspected official involvement in the case.
