Punjab Starts Pilot Registration for Rs 10 Lakh Universal Health Cover on Sept. 23

The scheme promises cashless care for 65 lakh families at government plus empanelled private hospitals following camp-based enrollment.

Overview

  • Pilot registration begins in Tarn Taran and Barnala with about 128 camps in each district targeted to finish in 10–12 days.
  • Residents can register using an Aadhaar card, a voter ID and a passport-size photo to obtain the Chief Minister’s Health Card.
  • Statewide enrollment will follow after feedback from the pilot, with cards enabling cashless treatment at empanelled facilities.
  • Benefits include up to Rs 10 lakh per family for more than 2,000 procedures at government and private hospitals, with no cap on family size and inclusion of government employees, ASHA and Anganwadi workers.
  • The program was cleared by the cabinet on July 10, and officials characterize it as the first state initiative offering family coverage at this level.
