Punjab Stages Mock Vidhan Sabha With 117 Students at Anandpur Sahib

The Constitution Day exercise at Anandpur Sahib used a full mock sitting to teach students how the legislature functions.

Overview

  • Hosted in a special assembly structure tied to the 350th martyrdom anniversary of Guru Tegh Bahadur, the session brought together students from across Punjab.
  • One student from each of the 117 constituencies assumed roles such as chief minister, ministers, speaker and opposition leader, conducting a 10-question Question Hour.
  • Student MLAs introduced the Punjab Panchayati Raj (Amendment) Bill 2024 and the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (Punjab Amendment) Bill 2025.
  • The House unanimously approved call attention notices on Mansa city sewerage, conservation of water and land, and a new maize seed variety developed by Punjab Agricultural University.
  • Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Dr Ravjot Singh praised the civic-learning initiative, with visits to the special assembly open through November 29 and an article competition offering cash prizes.
