Punjab Seeks ₹175 Crore for 17 Anti-Drone Systems as DGP Cites ISI Proxy War

Trials with the BSF precede a wider tech rollout under a police ‘Vision 2026’ modernization plan.

Overview

  • The state requested central funding to procure 17 anti-drone systems after installing three units, with six more being prepared, as a high-powered committee oversees BSF-coordinated trials.
  • DGP Gaurav Yadav said about 500 drones were sighted this year with roughly half neutralised, noting some aircraft evaded interception or returned to Pakistan.
  • More than 400 arms consignments were pushed into Punjab this year, nearly five times last year, often bundled with one‑kilogram heroin drops and one or two pistols or grenades.
  • Police say all 24 grenade attacks since September 2024 have been solved and attributed to ISI-backed foreign handlers targeting police facilities.
  • ‘Vision 2026’ priorities include 2,367 CCTV cameras at 585 border sites, an upgraded Dial‑112 targeting a 7–8 minute response, AI tools PAIS 2.0 and OCIS v2 linked to national databases, and expanded use of Red and Blue Corner notices to pursue fugitives abroad.
