Overview
- The sarpanch of Anandgarh, Satpal (also called Mintu), was attacked with sharp-edged weapons and then run over by the attackers’ vehicle and later died of his injuries.
- Police registered a murder case naming six people and have so far arrested four suspects and recovered the car alleged to have been used in the attack.
- The attack followed an old local enmity when a villager named Rohit, who said he was being chased, sought refuge at the sarpanch’s house and a clash broke out.
- The assault involved a large group who witnesses say arrived in two cars and several motorcycles and included attempts to intercept Satpal’s son Rahul as he tried to take his father to hospital.
- Villagers and family members are protesting and refusing to cremate the body until all accused are in custody, and senior police officers have visited the village and promised a detailed probe.
