Punjab Rolls Out CM Special Initiative Card to Fund Cancer and Cardiac Care

The plan sets firm January–February activation dates and new hiring to bring expanded services online in Lahore and Sargodha.

Overview

  • Government funding will cover full treatment costs for cancer and heart patients up to PKR 1,000,000 per person, with 45,000 cards issued in the first phase.
  • The OPD block at the Nawaz Sharif Institute of Cancer Treatment and Research in Lahore is slated to be operational by 17 January.
  • The Nawaz Sharif Institute of Cardiology in Sargodha is scheduled to have IPD, emergency, pathology and radiology fully functional by 31 January.
  • Lahore’s Jinnah Institute of Cardiology is planned to begin operations from 15 February, with boards approving 219 posts for the cancer institute, 258 for Sargodha cardiology and 1,104 for Jinnah cardiology.
  • Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s governor warned the province cannot function without intelligence-based operations and federal cooperation, and the federal information minister said governor rule remains an option when governance fails, as Bushra Bibi’s sister also reported eight weeks without family or lawyer access.
