Punjab Police Launch Fortnight-Long Independence Day Operation Alongside Day 154 Drug Raids

Punjab Police’s campaign under DGP Gaurav Yadav deploys intensified patrols, checkpoints and anti-gangster sweeps, coinciding with the drug cordon-and-search operation adding fresh arrests and heroin, opium and cash seizures.

  • Special DGP Arpit Shukla outlined regular anti-gangster and anti-terrorist sweeps, jail inspections and strategic vehicle checkpoints across the state.
  • On Day 154 of the cordon-and-search anti-drug campaign, Punjab Police raided 481 locations, arrested 107 smugglers and registered 80 FIRs.
  • Raids during the drug operation have recovered 13.9 kg of heroin, 500 g of opium and ₹34,820 in suspected drug money.
  • Over 180 police teams with more than 1,300 personnel under 87 gazetted officers conducted the day-long anti-drug raids and checked 511 suspicious individuals.
