Punjab Police Foil ISI-Backed BKI Terror Plot, Neutralize IED in Tarn Taran

Authorities have filed FIRs under the Explosive Substances Act, prompting a wider probe into network associates.

  • On August 7, the Anti-Gangster Task Force and Tarn Taran Police recovered a Pakistan-origin IED in Naushera Pannuan and carried out a controlled detonation by the Explosive Ordnance Disposal team.
  • Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav said the plot was directed by Pakistan-based Babbar Khalsa International operatives Harwinder Rinda and Lakhbir alias Landa with ISI support.
  • Deputy Inspector General Gurmeet Singh Chauhan confirmed an FIR was registered under sections 3, 4 and 5 of the Explosive Substances Act and section 111 of the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita at Sirhali police station.
  • In a related intelligence-led sweep, Amritsar Commissionerate Police arrested four individuals and seized seven pistols linked to a cross-border smuggling ring.
  • Ongoing investigations aim to identify and apprehend additional associates of Rinda and Landa across Punjab and abroad.
