Overview
- The Anti-Gangster Task Force, working with SAS Nagar police, intercepted the suspects at Ghaghar Bridge on the Ambala–Dera Bassi highway and took them into custody after an exchange of fire.
- The men were identified as Sharanjit Singh and Aman Kumar, both of whom sustained bullet injuries during the encounter, according to DGP Gaurav Yadav.
- Officers recovered two .32 calibre pistols and 10 live cartridges, and registered a case in Mohali under relevant Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita provisions and Section 25 of the Arms Act.
- Investigators say the pair were involved in a recent Rajpura shooting and were tasked to target a Punjab businessman on instructions attributed to Goldy Dhillon of the Lawrence Bishnoi network.
- Punjab officials also linked Dhillon to the October killing of businessman Darshan Singh Sahsi in Abbotsford, British Columbia, which local police in Canada say remains in early investigation with no arrests.
