Punjab Police Dismantle BKI-Linked Module in Gurdaspur, Two Arrested

Police say the suspects acted on directions from foreign-based handlers.

DGP Yadav said preliminary investigations have revealed that the arrested accused persons were working on the directions of their foreign-based handlers, who are backed by Babbar Khalsa International (BKI).

  • The suspects, Sarwan Kumar and Balwinder Singh of Gurdaspur, were held in an intelligence-led joint operation by CI Pathankot, CI Ludhiana and SSOC Amritsar.
  • Police recovered an Arges hand grenade, a .30-bore Star Mark pistol and three live cartridges from their possession.
  • Investigators say the pair were tasked to reconnoitre security establishments and were supplied explosives and funds to execute the assignment.
  • The men allegedly communicated with handlers via encrypted apps and virtual numbers after being introduced through an intermediary.
  • FIR No. 48 dated August 30 was registered at SSOC Amritsar under the Arms Act, BNS Section 61(2) and Sections 3, 4 and 5 of the Explosive Substances Act, with further arrests being pursued.
