Punjab Police Bust Cross-Border Arms–Drug Module in Amritsar, Seize 12 Pistols and 1.5 kg Heroin

Police say the probe now targets alleged Pakistan handlers via social media contacts, with drone drop mapping underway.

Overview

  • Five suspects were arrested, including a 16-year-old, in a case registered on September 28 at Gate Hakima Police Station under the Arms Act and NDPS provisions.
  • Those held are Joban Singh, Karandeep Singh alias Pandit, Ajaypal Singh, Jashanpreet Singh, and a juvenile, according to Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav.
  • Amritsar Police first intercepted three men at a checkpoint in the Gate Hakima area and recovered five .30-bore pistols, then detained two associates with seven more pistols.
  • Investigators recovered 1.5 kg of heroin from a location disclosed during interrogation of accused Joban Singh, police said.
  • Preliminary findings indicate two accused communicated with Pakistan-based smugglers over social media, and officials say consignments were pushed in by drones to supply local gangs.
