Punjab Police’s state special operation cell (SSOC), Mohali, has arrested Resham Singh, a key operative of the banned Sikh for Justice (SFJ) group, for his involvement in the vandalism of a Dr BR Ambedkar statue in Phillaur and executing a series of Pro-Khalistan graffiti across the state.

Overview

  • Resham Singh was apprehended on June 18 after being on the run since defacing a Dr. B.R. Ambedkar statue in Phillaur in early June.
  • Investigators allege he painted pro-Khalistan and anti-India slogans across multiple Punjab districts during last month’s Indo-Pak border escalation.
  • Police say he received between ₹8 lakh and ₹10 lakh from foreign-based handlers to fund his vandalism and propaganda efforts.
  • Singh first joined the SFJ network in 2019 through Harpreet Singh alias Rana and resumed his activities after his May 2024 release from Sangrur jail.
  • Authorities are probing his connections with SFJ chief Gurpatwant Singh Pannu and fugitive Surinder Singh Thikriwal to trace the group’s infrastructure.
