Punjab Pledges One-Month Payouts as Relief Drive Reaches Flood Camps

Officials say funds are in place and compensation will be issued via ATM cards following ongoing damage surveys.

Overview

  • At a Bhawana, Chiniot relief camp, the social welfare minister oversaw distribution of roughly two months’ rations and household supplies to more than 450 flood-affected people, pledging support until families return home.
  • Punjab’s compensation package includes PKR 1,000,000 for fully destroyed homes, PKR 500,000 for partially damaged homes, PKR 1,000,000 for next of kin of the deceased and PKR 500,000 for the severely injured, with livestock and property losses also covered.
  • The finance minister reiterated that funds are available, surveys are underway, and verified beneficiaries are to receive payments within one month through ATM cards to curb leakages.
  • Provincial authorities credit joint operations by PDMA, Rescue 1122, police, district administration, health services and the army with moving people to safety and, for the first time, systematically rescuing livestock.
  • Jamaat-e-Islami reports over PKR 88 billion in losses and 4.755 million people directly affected, highlighting the scale of verification and recovery as the province also touts future risk-reduction steps like small dams and clearing river routes.
