Punjab PCS Results Challenged After Claims of Unusual Selection Patterns

A CBI probe is being sought to secure exam records before interviews proceed.

Overview

  • The Punjab Public Service Commission declared results on November 4, provisionally shortlisting 751 candidates for interviews against 331 advertised vacancies.
  • Protesting aspirants and opposition leaders say the shortlist shows clusters of consecutive roll numbers, rooms with 10–11 qualifiers, and a high share of selections from a single centre, and they have submitted memoranda to national and state authorities.
  • The PPSC has rejected the allegations as a misreading of statistics, saying the highest centre contribution was 106 of 751 (14.1%), biometric and manual attendance and CCTV were used, and similar roll-number clusters appeared in past years.
  • Document verification and interviews are scheduled in Patiala from November 11–17 and candidates have demanded preservation of attendance logs, CCTV, seating plans and answer scripts while warning of Punjab and Haryana High Court challenges if explanations are unsatisfactory.
  • The dispute has become a political flashpoint with BJP, Congress and SAD leaders calling for a CBI probe, and the case will turn on forensic checks of attendance records, evaluators’ data and seating allocations that could delay final appointments.
