Overview
- Patients and attendants reported a stray dog carrying what appeared to be an infant’s head near Ward No. 4 around 5:30 pm on Tuesday at Rajindra Hospital in Patiala.
- Health Minister Dr Balbir Singh instructed hospital authorities and local police to investigate the case from all angles, and the recovered remains were transferred to forensic experts.
- Medical superintendent Dr Vishal Chopra said all recently delivered newborns are accounted for and indicated, on a preliminary basis, that the remains may have been dumped from outside the premises.
- Dr Chopra added that three recent child deaths at the hospital were documented and the bodies were handed over to families with required signatures.
- The hospital pledged full cooperation with police as people at the facility criticized security, sanitation and the stray dog problem.
