Punjab Orders PRA Special Unit and Provincewide Expansion by Oct. 30

The revenue drive builds on a 28% jump in first-quarter collections achieved without new taxes.

Overview

  • Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz set an October 30 deadline to extend PRA operations across all 30 districts, with additional deputy commissioners (general) taking added responsibilities.
  • The government granted in-principle approval to recruit 130 enforcement officers to strengthen field operations.
  • A new Special Unit combining field officers, tax consultants, legal experts and data analysts will coordinate a more data-driven approach to collection.
  • Officials are reviewing the inclusion of 19 additional sectors and have launched a taxpayer facilitation app as the PRA continues a crackdown on unregistered service providers.
  • PRA reported Rs66.41 billion collected in Q1 FY2025–26, up 28% year on year, plus Rs1.7 billion under the infrastructure development cess, with directives to ensure transparency and avoid harassment of compliant taxpayers.
