Punjab Orders Bodycams for PERA, Clears Training Push and EVs in Accountability Drive

The directives follow a high-level review of PERA to restore public trust.

Overview

  • Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif directed the immediate installation of body-worn cameras to record all PERA field operations and said completion should come as soon as possible.
  • She declared zero tolerance for bribery, misconduct or abuse of authority within the force to strengthen accountability.
  • Specialized training programs were approved to raise skills and performance, alongside in-principle approval for a state-of-the-art PERA Training Centre.
  • Electric vehicles were cleared for the force to provide faster, safer and more environmentally friendly service across Punjab.
  • Officials framed the measures as policy decisions from the Dec. 5 Lahore meeting, with operational rollout and timelines still to be detailed.
