Punjab Opens 69th National School Games in Ludhiana

The state positions the meet as a showcase of its push to grow sports from the ground up.

Overview

  • The six-day event runs January 6–11 with participants from all states and Union Territories, joined by teams from Kendriya Vidyalayas, Navodaya Vidyalayas and Vidya Bharati schools.
  • Competitions span judo, taekwondo and Gatka across multiple Ludhiana venues, including BCM Arya Model Senior Secondary School, Government Senior Secondary School at PAU and the PAU Open Air Theatre.
  • Officials say roughly 1,000 student athletes and more than 350 coaches have arrived for the tournaments.
  • Punjab highlights a first-phase program to construct 3,100 playgrounds across villages and cities as part of its grassroots infrastructure drive.
  • The government cites a new policy offering advance financial assistance to athletes selected for major international events, which officials claim has lifted the state's medal tally.
