Punjab on Cold-Weather Alert, Gas Blasts in Lahore and Pakpattan Hurt Several

  • The Pakistan Meteorological Department forecasts Lahore between 3°C and 13°C with dry, cold conditions and no rain expected for the next two to three days.
  • PDMA issued advisories to tourism, education, health, agriculture, transport, highways, police and Rescue 1122, urged caution on travel, and directed use of helpline 1129.
  • A gas leak triggered an explosion near Atari Darbar on Ferozepur Road in Lahore, burning eight people who were moved to General Hospital after a heater ignited leaked gas in a room.
  • During cylinder refilling in Pakpattan’s Chak Shafee, a blast blew off a shop roof, snapped power lines and ignited a fire that rescue teams extinguished.
  • Officials also reported service and welfare steps, including an expected Phase I opening of the Nawaz Sharif Institute’s cancer care clinic and Rs720,000 in aid with doubled stipends for police employees’ children with cerebral palsy.
