Overview
- Police identified the victim as Harpinder Singh, also known as Sonu, who was shot in the abdomen when a loaded pistol at his waist discharged as he stood up from a sofa in Dhani Sucha Singh village in Fazilka’s Balluana segment.
- Family members rushed him to a government hospital and he was referred to Bathinda, but he died in transit, according to officials and local reports.
- Investigators reviewed in-house CCTV footage, recorded statements including from his father Darshan Singh, and initiated proceedings under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
- A post-mortem was completed on Tuesday and the body was handed to the family for cremation, police said.
- Singh had recently returned from abroad and is survived by his wife and two-year-old daughter, and his funeral drew many villagers along with AAP leaders, including Balluana MLA Goldy Musafir.
