Punjab MLA Sukhwinder Sukhi Resigns as Conware Chief Over Dispute on ‘Missing’ Saroops

He relinquishes Cabinet rank after defending a Banga gurdwara that police linked to a probe into 328 alleged missing saroops.

Overview

  • Sukhi announced his resignation in a Facebook video on Sunday, saying he was hurt by doubts cast on Rasokhana Shri Nabh Kanwal Raja Sahib Gurdwara.
  • Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann said an SIT reported finding 169 saroops at the site, including 79 published before 2012, with 107 printed by the SGPC and 62 by private printers.
  • AAP’s Baltej Pannu said 115 of the 169 saroops were numbered and 54 had no serial numbers, while records exist for 30; Mann separately noted that 139 had no official record.
  • The gurdwara management denied holding any of the 328 missing saroops, saying only 30 in their possession were printed in 2014–2015 and were acquired or installed through documented processes.
  • Sukhi earlier asserted there was no violation of maryada at the site, met Mann to discuss the issue with no resolution reported, and his legislative resignation remains unaccepted as the probe continues.
