Fire personnel doused a fire in an LPG tanker late Friday on the Hoshiarpur-Jalandhar road in Hoshiarpur, Punjab.

  • Officials said a collision between an LPG tanker and a pickup near Mandiala on the HoshiarpurJalandhar highway around 10 p.m. triggered a fire and explosion.
  • Hospital authorities confirmed two deaths and said 23 burn victims were brought to Hoshiarpur Civil Hospital, with many referred to specialty centers for critical care.
  • The blaze, now largely contained, engulfed about 15 shops and several homes as fire brigades, police, SDRF units, and teams from nearby military and air bases responded.
  • Deputy Commissioner Aashika Jain cited a suspected post-collision gas leak and said Hindustan Petroleum bottling-plant officials have been called for an inquiry.
  • Villagers held a sit-in demanding the plant’s relocation, and Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann announced Rs 2 lakh ex gratia for the deceased and free treatment for the injured.
