Punjab Logs 48 New Dengue Cases as Islamabad Reports 56 During Monsoon-Driven Surge

Prolonged monsoon flooding has left stagnant water that is driving mosquito breeding during a PMD-declared high-risk window through early December.

Overview

  • Punjab’s season tally rose to 1,430 after 48 new confirmations, including 15 in Lahore (total 245) and 20 in Rawalpindi (total 676), according to official figures.
  • Islamabad recorded 56 fresh infections in 24 hours, with 37 cases from rural areas and 19 from urban localities, and 27 patients currently admitted, the District Health Officer said.
  • Public hospitals in Lahore reported inactive or understaffed dengue counters, crowded wards and long waits, pushing patients toward costly private testing where some labs charge about Rs3,000 per test.
  • Lahore’s deputy commissioner ordered intensified surveillance, daily hotspot checks, larva elimination and expanded public-awareness work, alongside drain cleaning and other municipal fixes.
  • Across the border, the Jammu region logged 1,105 positives through September 30, with Jammu district at 460 and Kathua at 342, as municipal teams expanded fogging and spraying operations.
