Overview
- Labour department teams are conducting surprise checks at factories, workshops and other sites employing manual labour across the province.
- From January to September 2025, inspectors reviewed 1,330 establishments, finding 707 compliant and prosecuting 623 over non-payment of minimum wages, inadequate protective gear and poor safety standards.
- Enforcement officers have been instructed to monitor strictly and take prompt action, with officials warning that underpayment or unsafe conditions will not be tolerated.
- The initiative is being executed under directives from Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif and the provincial labour minister to protect workers’ rights and ensure safe workplaces.
- The department will continue inspections across Lahore and other districts and is preparing awareness efforts and engagement with employers’ associations to encourage voluntary compliance.
