Punjab IG Orders Provincewide High Alert After CTD Reports 12 Arrests Alleged to Have RAW Links

New directives put schools through preparedness drills with tighter entry checks.

Overview

  • Inspector General Dr Usman Anwar directed immediate sweep-and-combing operations across Lahore, Rawalpindi, Multan and other districts.
  • SDPOs and SHOs were told to coordinate with the Counter Terrorism Department and other agencies, with door-to-door checks and profiling of people arriving from outside Punjab.
  • Officials ordered mock security exercises at educational institutions, installation of CCTV at entry and exit points, deployment of trained guards and emergency evacuation plans.
  • The CTD said it arrested 12 suspects in Lahore, Faisalabad and Bahawalpur who were allegedly linked to India’s RAW, seizing weapons, explosives, detonators and imagery of sensitive sites.
  • Anwar announced 3,500 forthcoming police promotions and highlighted official performance claims including a 930% jump in driving licence issuance and a 46% crime reduction in Lahore, while maintaining monitoring of banned groups including TLP.
