Punjab Guarantees Rs 10 Lakh Cashless Health Cover for Every Family

Backed by a Rs 778 crore budget, the plan will go live on October 2 to eliminate out-of-pocket costs for serious treatments.

Overview

  • Under the Mukh Mantri Sarbat Sehat Bima Yojana, 65 lakh families will be entitled to up to Rs 10 lakh per year in cashless treatment at government and empanelled private hospitals.
  • The Punjab government allocated Rs 778 crore in its 2025-26 budget to underwrite universal health coverage.
  • Some 45 lakh families already enrolled under Ayushman Bharat or the earlier state scheme will receive an additional Rs 5 lakh top-up each.
  • No resident will have to pay any out-of-pocket expenses for treatment of serious ailments under the new policy.
  • Punjab becomes the first Indian state to guarantee universal cashless treatment up to Rs 10 lakh per family.
