Punjab Extends Section 144 Provincewide Through Nov. 22

Officials cite security threats, warning that large gatherings could be targeted.

  • The Punjab Home Department issued a Nov. 17 notification keeping restrictions in force across the province until Saturday, Nov. 22.
  • All public assemblies of four or more people, including protests, rallies, processions, sit-ins and meetings, remain prohibited under the order.
  • The directive bans the display of weapons and outlaws the publication or distribution of inflammatory, hateful or sectarian material.
  • Loudspeaker use is limited to the call to prayer and Friday sermons, with all other uses prohibited.
  • Exemptions cover private ceremonies such as weddings, funerals and burials, as well as officials on duty and courts.
