Punjab Extends Section 144 Across Province Until Nov. 15

Officials cite fresh intelligence indicating persistent threats to public order.

Overview

  • All protests, rallies, sit-ins, and public assemblies of four or more people remain prohibited across Punjab, including major cities.
  • Displaying any weapons is banned, and loudspeakers may be used only for the Azaan and the Friday sermon.
  • Publication and distribution of provocative or sectarian content, including on social media, are barred with law enforcement directed to monitor online platforms.
  • Funerals, weddings, on-duty government personnel, and court proceedings are exempt from the restrictions.
  • The latest seven-day extension follows a Nov. 2 order that ran through Nov. 8, with officials describing the curbs as preventive, temporary, and subject to ongoing review.
