Punjab Extends HPV Vaccination Drive to Oct. 1 to Lift Coverage

The extension seeks to close coverage gaps with many schools still unserved.

Overview

  • Provincial EPI said the campaign has reached 68% of a 90% coverage goal, triggering a three-day extension.
  • The health minister reported more than 5.2 million girls vaccinated against a 7.2 million target and cited a 72% provincial success rate.
  • Counselling efforts reduced recorded refusals from about 300,000 to 90,000 after a slow first day of 250,000 vaccinations.
  • Authorities plan to shift HPV shots into the routine immunisation schedule in 2026, which will end mass catch-up opportunities for girls older than nine.
  • Following two reported attacks on vaccination teams in Mandi Bahauddin, police registered a case and the minister said suspects were arrested with security measures reinforced.
