Punjab Concludes Record Eid Cleanup Using Drone and Digital Monitoring

Officials say the three-day operation cleared hundreds of thousands of tonnes of sacrificial waste with plans for worker bonuses, waste-to-energy pilots

Overview

  • The provincial government said the three-day Eid-ul-Azha operation has ended with official tallies reporting roughly 360,000 to 376,000 tonnes of animal waste and refuse removed across Punjab.
  • Authorities deployed an unprecedented field force, reporting more than 184,000 sanitation workers and tens of thousands of vehicles and machines to carry out door-to-door collection, temporary collection points and road washing.
  • For the first time the campaign used Safe City digital dashboards and drone cameras to spot offal in narrow streets and remote areas, trigger immediate Suthra Punjab team deployments, and monitor worker and vehicle performance in real time.
  • Punjab announced a Rs10,000 cash bonus for each Suthra Punjab sanitation worker and held closing ceremonies to recognise staff who worked through extreme heat and long shifts.
  • Officials said the government will expand Suthra Punjab, set up designated slaughter sites, pilot waste-to-energy and biogas projects and install incinerators as part of efforts to make Eid cleanup a routine, digitally monitored service and to reduce health and environmental risks.
