Overview
- Party sources said Amarinder Singh Raja Warring offered his resignation and was relieved of the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee post on Sept. 30, and the high command plans to name his successor within 24–48 hours.
- The decision followed a ground report compiled by Sachin Pilot after more than 50 meetings with district leaders and workers that raised concerns about the unit’s factional splits and organisational weakness.
- Former minister Vijay Inder Singla is the frontrunner for the job, with other names being considered including Pargat Singh, Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, Partap Bajwa, Charanjit Singh Channi and Sukhbinder Sarkaria.
- Senior Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi, party president Mallikarjun Kharge, KC Venugopal and Pilot reviewed Pilot’s findings and cleared the change as a high‑command move to stabilise the state unit.
- The reshuffle aims to mend long‑running Warring–Channi factionalism, shape a caste and community balance for voters, and set organisational lines for the party’s campaign plans and Rahul Gandhi’s upcoming Punjab tour before the 2027 election.
