Punjab CM Inaugurates Rs 3,394-Crore Shahpur Kandi Dam Project in Pathankot

Overview

• The project is valued at Rs 3,394.49 crore, with Punjab contributing Rs 2,694.02 crore and the central government Rs 700.45 crore.
• The dam stands 55.5 metres high and includes a 7.7 km hydel channel, according to official details shared at the launch.
• Irrigation is slated to reach 5,000 hectares in Punjab and support a continuous supply to 1.18 lakh hectares under the Upper Bari Doab Canal system.
• Two powerhouses with a combined capacity of 206 MW are under construction, with roughly 75% of the work reported complete.
• Officials say the reservoir will store releases from the Ranjit Sagar Dam to maximize peak-hour power generation and curb unused flows into Pakistan.
