Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann Seeks Live Telecast of Jan. 15 Appearance Before Akal Takht

The Sikh temporal authority summoned him over alleged anti-Sikh remarks plus videos described as objectionable.

Overview

  • Bhagwant Mann confirmed he will appear on January 15 at the Akal Takht Secretariat in Amritsar and said he will present evidence.
  • In a post on X, he asked the Jathedar to permit a live broadcast so the global sangat can follow his clarification in real time.
  • The Akal Takht cited remarks it says demeaned the Sikh Rehat Maryada and the principle of dasvandh, or Guru ki Golak.
  • Its statement also referenced circulating clips that it described as showing objectionable acts with images of the Sikh Gurus and Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale.
  • Because Mann is a patit Sikh, he was directed to submit his response to the Secretariat, with some reports noting the summons would be unprecedented for a sitting chief minister.
