Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann Appears Before Akal Takht as SIT Traces 169 Missing Saroops

Sikh high priests will consider his clarification following a forensic review of the viral clip.

Overview

  • After an hour-long meeting in Amritsar, Bhagwant Mann denied the video’s authenticity, calling it doctored, and said he would abide by the clergy’s decision.
  • Acting Jathedar Kuldeep Singh Gargaj said Mann’s explanation will be placed before the five high priests and the clip will be examined by forensic experts.
  • At the Maghi Mela, Mann said the SIT located 169 of 328 missing copies of the Guru Granth Sahib near Banga, with records for only 30 and none for 139.
  • The government says the recovered saroops will be handed to the SGPC for installation as the probe continues following a December 2025 FIR and the arrest of former SGPC auditor Satinder Singh Kohli.
  • AAP, SAD and BJP held separate political conferences in Muktsar to pitch their 2027 agendas, while Congress stayed away citing the Akal Takht’s 2017 appeal against such events.
