Overview
- The Punjab Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, approved three coordinated policies to manage custom milling, foodgrains transport, and labour and cartage for the Kharif 2026-27 procurement season.
- The custom milling policy relaxes delivery rules so rice millers who have completed at least 90% of prior milling can receive fresh paddy to keep procurement and milling running without disruption.
- The cabinet authorised Mann to amend any policy provisions during the procurement period to address administrative exigencies and ensure the state lifts every grain brought by farmers.
- Ministers also cleared an amendment to PPSC Group A service rules to allow promotion from Personal Assistant to Personal Secretary and authorised new and revived health‑sector posts, including 33 at Chamkaur Sahib, 19 for Malerkotla and 119 at Dhuri.
- Coverage noted Punjab faces severe storage pressure with state granaries near capacity and a procurement target of about 180 lakh metric tonnes, so the policies are meant to ease logistics and speed up movement of paddy and rice.
