Punjab Bypolls 2024: Peaceful Voting with Minor Incidents

Voting was largely peaceful in Punjab's bypolls, testing the strength of AAP, Congress, and BJP.

The bypolls were held for four assembly seats: Dera Baba Nanak, Gidderbaha, Chabbewal (SC), and Barnala, after previous MLAs were elected to the Lok Sabha.
A minor clash occurred between AAP and Congress workers in the Dera Baba Nanak segment, which was quickly diffused by police.
Gidderbaha recorded the highest voter turnout at 79%, while Chabbewal had the lowest at 49% by late afternoon.
The bypolls are seen as a test for the AAP government's performance, following its poor showing in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
The Shiromani Akali Dal opted out of the bypolls due to internal issues, leaving a triangular contest between AAP, Congress, and BJP.
