Punjab BJP Chief Sunil Jakhar Alleges Politicised Policing, Seeks Impartial Probes

The charge comes ahead of rural local body polls.

Overview

  • At a Chandigarh press conference on December 7, Jakhar said law and order in Punjab is worsening and claimed only the BJP would act against the 'black sheep' within the police.
  • Listing recent cases, he cited the killing of an RSS leader’s son in Ferozepur, a fatal shooting at a Ludhiana marriage palace, and an attack on AAP leader Daljit Raju’s residence in Phagwara.
  • Referring to a purported Patiala SSP audio, he alleged police declared it AI-generated within two hours without inquiry and then summoned journalists and political leaders, and he demanded an impartial investigation.
  • He said a High Court–supervised inquiry established that a Lawrence Bishnoi interview was recorded in Punjab despite a DGP affidavit stating otherwise, and he pointed to the CBI’s October arrest of a DIG as further concern.
  • Accusing some officers of extortion and aiding election rigging, he also mocked Arvind Kejriwal’s November 7 warning to gangsters as ineffective and questioned the effectiveness of Punjab’s unusually large cadre of senior police ranks.
