Overview

  • Work will start immediately on 3,083 sports grounds in the first phase out of 4,000 planned sites covering Punjab’s nearly 13,000 villages.
  • Village panchayats and NRIs have pledged land across thousands of sites to eliminate any shortage of locations for the new facilities.
  • Each ground will feature AstroTurf, synthetic running tracks and cluster-based sports nurseries complete with hostels, mess facilities and coaches’ quarters.
  • Medal-winning athletes will serve as coaches to cultivate local talent and channel youth energy into positive activities.
  • The programme forms a key pillar of the Yudh Nashian Virudh drug campaign by offering constructive outlets to deter substance abuse.
