Punjab Asks IAF to Place Five Retired MiG-21s at Schools of Eminence

  • Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains wrote to Air Chief Marshal A P Singh requesting five decommissioned MiG-21s for static display at state Schools of Eminence.
  • The proposed campuses are in Ludhiana, Amritsar, Ferozepur, Nangal and Kharar.
  • The plan is intended to motivate government school students to pursue careers in defence, engineering and aerospace technology.
  • Punjab says any installation and ceremonial events would be done in collaboration with the IAF and in line with service protocols.
  • The MiG-21 fleet was formally retired on September 26 in Chandigarh after roughly 62 years of service, and the state is awaiting the IAF’s response to its appeal.
