Punjab and Haryana High Court Defers Majithia’s Plea to July 8, Denies Interim Relief

The bench reprimanded his counsel for failing to file updated remand orders in his challenge to the ₹540 crore money laundering case.

Majithia’s counsel, Arshdeep Singh Kler, said they have challenged the arrest by the vigilance bureau (VB) and his remand order by a Mohali court.

Overview

  • The High Court on July 4 adjourned the hearing on Bikram Singh Majithia’s petition against his arrest and remand without granting any interim relief.
  • Justice Tribhuvan Dahiya’s bench reprimanded Majithia’s lawyer, Arshdeep Singh Kler, for omitting the fresh Mohali court remand order from the petition.
  • Majithia is challenging his June 25 arrest by the Punjab Vigilance Bureau in a disproportionate assets case alleging laundering of ₹540 crore of alleged drug proceeds.
  • The Mohali court had sent him to a seven-day vigilance remand on June 26 and extended it by four days on July 2 for further interrogation.
  • The disproportionate assets probe builds on a 2021 NDPS investigation and 2018 STF findings linking Majithia to narcotics trafficking.
